Blue Topaz The name Topaz can be traced back to the Sanskrit word topas or “fire.” Topaz come in colors including brown, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple as well as colorless. Natural blue topaz is very rare and is caused by atomic element changes in the crystal structure of the stone itself. Colorless topaz is widely available and can be treated to give it a blue color. Topaz is a November birthstone.

Old European Cut The Old European Cut, the precursor to the round brilliant, is an 1890-1930 hand cut round with good symmetry and an open culet, meaning a flat facet at the bottom of the diamond instead of the sharp point of a modern round brilliant cut.

Verdura Founded by Duke Fulco di Verdura in New York in 1939 with the backing of Vincent Astor and Cole Porter, the house of Verdura created gems featured in the Hitchcock film Suspicion, collaborated on a collection with Salvador Dali, and outfitted Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, Princess Diana and Greta Garbo, among many others.

Unique Elements
This stunning blue topaz Verdura pin can be worn many ways – on its own on a waist or lapel of a dress or a suit for day or evening, and with a sculptural gown at a gala, pinned at the waist and worn with the matching earrings and ring in our collection. You might even pin in into a low bun in your hair – it can be both your “something borrowed” and “something blue” at the same time!
