Unique Elements
We love the pairing of gray and gold, and the Hematite beads on this Van Cleef and Arpels choker are exceptionally fine. Pair this necklace with the matching bracelet in our collection and use them to highlight a beautiful neck and shoulders, day or evening.

Hematite Hematite, from the Greek haema or ' blood,' is an iron oxide that while silvery gray to black in appearance, in fact leaves a red streak if scratched against another surface. Hematite has been used in rings, pins, bracelets and necklaces since the ancient Egyptians carved it for seals.

Round Brilliant-Cut The Round Brilliant Cut dates back to 1919, when Marcel Tolkowsky calculated a formula for proportional diamond design to maximize fire, brilliance and wearability, published as “Diamond Design: A Study of the Reflection and Refraction of Light in Diamond.” A round brilliant diamond can also be called a full cut diamond if it features the cutting standard of 57 or 58 facets.

Van Cleef and Arpels Established in 1906, Van Cleef and Arpels has maintained its flagship in the Place Vendôme in Paris ever since. Known for iconic motifs including flowers, animals, and fairies, the house has designed for the Duchess of Windsor, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Eva Peron, among many others.  VCA won the grand prize at the International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in 1925 and established itself as one of the leading houses of the Art Deco period. In 1933, VCA patented its "Mystery Setting,” a technique where each stone is faceted onto invisible gold rails less than two-tenths of a millimeter thick. Each mystery setting can require 300 hours of work per piece or more, and only a few are produced each year. Signature collections include Alhambra, created in 1968.
