Unique Elements
The house of Lalaounis is known for historic references to Greek mythology as well as superior goldsmithing and this ring highlights both. This two-headed lion with diamonds and ruby could easily have been worn by Jackie Onassis in Greece. We love this ring as a statement with a business look as well as to complete a cocktail outfit or evening gown.

Ruby Ruby is called “the king of gems” in Sanskrit. Rubies have obtained the highest per-carat price of any colored stone. Ruby is a variety of corundum, a mineral species that also includes sapphire. Rubies range from orangey red to pure red to purplish red. Trace elements of chromium cause ruby’s red color. Ruby is the July birthstone and the stone for the 15th and 40th anniversaries.

Rose Cut The rose cut originated in the 1500's and were cut by hand and meant to be beautiful in the candlelight conditions of the time. The name 'rose" for this cut comes from its facets, which are said to resemble petals in a rose bud. The rose cut features a flat base and domed top featuring 3 to 24 facets. As this cut has a flat base, it gives a softer, gentler light than a fully faceted brilliant cut. It also gives a larger face-up appearance than a brilliant cut of similar carat weight, as it carries all of its weight above the flat base.

Ilias Lalaounis Ilias Lalaounis was a fourth generation jeweller who founded his eponymous brand in 1969. Famous for historic pieces and gold, the house has many notable clients including Empress Farah of Iran and Aristotle Onassis, who purchased pieces for Maria Callas and Jacqueline Kennedy. In 1993, Lalaounis opened a museum in Athens featuring several thousand pieces of his work. Lalaounis passed in 2013 and the firm is currently run by his daughters.
