Cushion Cut The cushion cut, which can be both a modern or “old mine” cut is a square or rectangular diamond with softly rounded corners, like a cushion. Most colored gems as well as diamonds were cushion cut in the 19th century, and it is one of the best diamond cuts for retaining natural color, which is why it remains popular for colored stones to this day. The old mine cut has 58 facets where a modern cushion cut typically has 64 facets.

Full Cut Full cut diamonds: A round brilliant cut diamond can also be called a full cut diamond if it features the cutting standard of 57 or 58 facets.

Citrine Citrine, a yellow to orange variety of quartz, is rare in nature. A November birthstone, as well as the stone marking the thirteenth wedding anniversary, citrines are one of the most popular yellow gemstones. Often identified with the Victorian era, citrine’s use as a gem dates back to 300 B.C.

Ruby Ruby is called “the king of gems” in Sanskrit. Rubies have obtained the highest per-carat price of any colored stone. Ruby is a variety of corundum, a mineral species that also includes sapphire. Rubies range from orangey red to pure red to purplish red. Trace elements of chromium cause ruby’s red color. Ruby is the July birthstone and the stone for the 15th and 40th anniversaries.

Jean Schlumberger Jean Michel Schlumberger (1907-1987) was one of the leading jewellery designers of the 20th century. He began his career in jewelry as a designer of buttons and costume jewelry for fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli in France. After WW2, he moved to New York, where he was hired by Tiffany and Co. in 1956 to head his own jewelry department and workshop that created pieces for Greta Garbo, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, Wallis Simpson, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn among many other luminaries. Schlumberger created the famous necklace with the Tiffany Yellow Diamond and described his own approach to design " ‘I try to make everything look as if it were growing, uneven, at random, organic, in motion.’
