Quartz Quartz is one of the most widely available minerals on Earth and occurs in many varieties and colors, most notably as amethyst, rose quartz, smoky quartz, rock crystal and citrine. Rutilated quartz contains enclosed rutile needles which can form in unique patterns of thick, thin and criss crossed lines. Ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Greek civilizations believed that quartz crystals had magical powers. Rose quartz is the 5th anniversary gem.

Pavé Set The technique of pavé (“pa-vay,”) setting involves setting small diamonds closely together with as little visible prongs or metal holding the stones, giving the impression of seamless sparkle. Pavé setting dates back to the 1700s with increased popularity in the 1900s through the present.

Round Brilliant-Cut The Round Brilliant Cut dates back to 1919, when Marcel Tolkowsky calculated a formula for proportional diamond design to maximize fire, brilliance and wearability, published as “Diamond Design: A Study of the Reflection and Refraction of Light in Diamond.” A round brilliant diamond can also be called a full cut diamond if it features the cutting standard of 57 or 58 facets.

Paloma Picasso The youngest daughter of Pablo Picasso, Paloma Picasso began her work in jewelry with rhinestone necklaces in 1968. She created accessories for a 1969 collection by Yves Saint Laurent and began designing jewelry for Tiffany & Co. in 1980, where she is approaching her 40th anniversary in 2020. Picasso is known for her vibrant use of colored gems as well as her sculptural designs.

Tiffany and Co. Founded in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany, the house has become one of the most famous jewelers in the world, with its iconic blue box. In 1878 the company acquired the 287.42 diamond now known as the Tiffany Diamond from South Africa. This stone was worn by Audrey Hepburn in a necklace in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961. Tiffany & Co named Kunzite in 1902, Morganite in 1910, Tanzanite in the 1960s and Tsavorite in 1974. The house has collaborated with designers including Jean Schlumberger and Donald Claflin ( since 1955), Paloma Picasso ( since 1980) and Elsa Perreti( since 1974) and has been worn by royalty throughout the world.

Unique Elements
Paloma Picasso’s ‘Graffiti X’ collection was an immediate hit for Tiffany and Co., and she remains known for her unique combination of color, big stones and romantic yet sculptural pieces. These iconic drop earrings from 1985 give all of her best elements – dazzling faceted color to highlight the face, movement from the drops and platinum and diamond brilliance in the ‘X.’ These earrings are perfect for attending a party, from cocktail to wedding to reception.
