Cushion cut peridot cocktail ring set with six round brilliant cut diamonds, platinum, size 6. Munnu The Gem Palace

Unique Elements
This ring features a cushion modified brilliant cut, which softens the rectangular shape with rounded corners, like a cushion. The cushion was the most popular cut for diamonds until the 20th century as it highlights the clarity of the stone, and the purity of color in this beautiful green gem enables the impact of this masterful cut.

Peridot Peridot was originally mined by ancient Egyptians who called it the “gem of the sun.” Peridot ranges from brown-green to yellowish green to pure green. The Romans called peridot the “emerald of the evening” and the deepest green peridot have been mistaken for emeralds for centuries. Peridot is the August birthstone and the 15th anniversary stone.

Cushion Cut The cushion cut, which can be both a modern or “old mine” cut is a square or rectangular diamond with softly rounded corners, like a cushion. Most colored gems as well as diamonds were cushion cut in the 19th century, and it is one of the best diamond cuts for retaining natural color, which is why it remains popular for colored stones to this day. The old mine cut has 58 facets where a modern cushion cut typically has 64 facets.

Round Brilliant-Cut The Round Brilliant Cut dates back to 1919, when Marcel Tolkowsky calculated a formula for proportional diamond design to maximize fire, brilliance and wearability, published as “Diamond Design: A Study of the Reflection and Refraction of Light in Diamond.” A round brilliant diamond can also be called a full cut diamond if it features the cutting standard of 57 or 58 facets.

Munnu The Gem Palace One of the largest South Asian empires in history, the Mughal Empire (1526-1857) continues to influence luxury high jewelry design, in direct elements such the 'Tutti-Frutti' carved jewels of Cartier, the sautoir designs of the 1920s and 1970s in particular, as well as necklaces and earrings set with enamel and cabochon gems in the Mughal style in the late 1960s and early 1970s in major French houses such as Van Cleef and Arpels and Boucheron. The Kasliwal family were jewelers to the Mughal Emperors, famed for their enamelwork, and intricate carving and setting of precious stones as well as rose cut diamonds. In 1725, the Kasliwals moved to Jaipur, India from Agra as the crown jewelers to Maharaja Jai Singh, and have remained in Jaipur ever since. The Gem Palace opened in 1923 and immediately became a favorite of royal families, dignitaries and celebrities worldwide, including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Princess Diana and Bill Clinton. 8th generation family member Munnu Kasliwal (1958-2012) enjoyed international fame as a jewelry designer, with 6 commissioned collections for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York as well as solo exhibitions at Somerset House in London (2006) and at the Kremlin (2014). Munnu The Gem Palace is headed by Munnu's son, jewelry designer Siddharth Kasliwal.
