Unique Elements
This Boucheron cocktail ring has a lot going for it. First, the large cat’s eye quartz exhibits a band of light across the stone that looks like the narrowed eye of a cat. Second, the base of the ring is set with vibrant green demantoid garnets, giving a green sparkle to brighten any cocktail look. This ring is fun to wear and fun to talk about.

Garnet The name garnet, from the Latin granatas, meaning seed, refers to red garnets, which can look like pomegranate seeds. Garnets come in many colors, from yellow, pink, white, colorless, orange to red to brown to green. Garnets have featured in jewelry throughout time, with red almandine garnets in particular featuring in Roman as well as Victorian jewels. Rose cut garnets from Bohemia (Czech Republic) were particularly popular during the Victorian era. Other popular varieties include green demantoid and tsavorite garnets.

Quartz Quartz is one of the most widely available minerals on Earth and occurs in many varieties and colors, most notably as amethyst, rose quartz, smoky quartz, rock crystal and citrine. Rutilated quartz contains enclosed rutile needles which can form in unique patterns of thick, thin and criss crossed lines. Ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Greek civilizations believed that quartz crystals had magical powers. Rose quartz is the 5th anniversary gem.

Chatoyancy The phenomena of chatoyancy, or the appearance of a band of light across the stone that looks like the narrowed eye of a cat, is caused by the fibrous structure of certain varieties of gems including quartz, tourmaline, garnet, chrysoberyl and corundum. Very fine inclusions like rutile and hematite cause the appearance of these bands, most commonly in tiger's eye. Cat's eye stones are typically cut in a cabochon to highlight the effect.
