Ruby Ruby is called “the king of gems” in Sanskrit. Rubies have obtained the highest per-carat price of any colored stone. Ruby is a variety of corundum, a mineral species that also includes sapphire. Rubies range from orangey red to pure red to purplish red. Trace elements of chromium cause ruby’s red color. Ruby is the July birthstone and the stone for the 15th and 40th anniversaries.

Pear Shape The pear shape, also known as teardrop shape, dates back to 1475 when Lodewyck van Bercken invented both the diamond polishing wheel and the pear shape that it enabled. Ideal pear shape symmetry is a length to width ratio of 1.5:1. In a ring, pear cuts can elongate the appearance of the finger, and in earrings, pear cuts can give the appearance of water droplets or movement. This shape holds more color than a round and is typically faceted in the brilliant style to provide maximum sparkle.

Cartier “The jeweller of kings and the king of jewelers," Cartier was founded in 1847 in Paris by Louis-François Cartier , and remained a family business until 1964. Cartier has produced jewelry for royal families worldwide, as well as clients including Princess Grace, Elizabeth Taylor, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Jean Cocteau.

Unique Elements
Cartier has been associated with China and Chinese design motifs since 1908 when the company began trade visits to Hong Kong and Shanghai. Along with its use of enamel and lacquer, Cartier has frequently featured traditional Chinese imagery such as the dragon. These earrings/dress clips combine the wish for power, strength and good luck with the artistry of Cartier.
