Unique Elements
Geneva based Gay Frères produced for Van Cleef and Arpels and many others as well as for their own line, famed for their skill with mixed materials. These hoop earrings highlight the unique materials and look as modern today as when they were created. Wear them with the matching bracelet in our collection, or mix it up with other yellow gold pieces.

Tiger's Eye Tiger’s-eye is a quartz that ranges from brownish yellow to brown to reddish brown. Its fibrous structure causes the gem to exhibit the phenomena of chatoyancy, or the appearance of a band of light across the stone that looks like the narrowed eye of a cat.

Chatoyancy The phenomena of chatoyancy, or the appearance of a band of light across the stone that looks like the narrowed eye of a cat, is caused by the fibrous structure of certain varieties of gems including quartz, tourmaline, garnet, chrysoberyl and corundum. Very fine inclusions like rutile and hematite cause the appearance of these bands, most commonly in tiger's eye. Cat's eye stones are typically cut in a cabochon to highlight the effect.

Demi-Parure Demi-Parure are pieces of matching jewelry that are designed to be worn together, though fewer than a full set or parure; dates from the second half of the 16th century, and traditionally, when a parure involved six or seven pieces, a demi-parure was a three-piece suite of (usually) a necklace, earrings, and a brooch.

Gay Frères Founded in 1835 in Geneva, Gay Frères initially speciialized as 'chainistes' producing platinum, gold and stainless steel bracelets and chains for Van Cleef and Arpels, Rolex and Patek Phillipe, among many others. By the 1960's and 70s, the house expanded into high jewelry pieces highlighting their skills with mixed materials such as tortoiseshell, ebony and tiger's eye as well as precious gems and enamel work. Many pieces feature animal motifs including their logo ram, leopard, tiger and stallion heads. The family-owned house was purchased by Rolex in 1998.
