We felt strongly that the name should speak to the company’s heritage as a New York-based trading experience, and Beekman is one of the earliest names recorded in the oyster trade of New York in the 1600s. We also thought of the character of Sir Francis Beekman, who is the owner of a diamond mine in the 1953 film “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” starring Marilyn Monroe.
